NEW ARMY PRAISED
“ABSOLUTELY SATISFACTORY” Praise for the standard of men in the first echelon of the New Zealand Special Force was extended by Lieutenant-Colonel L. M. Inglis. Officer Commanding the Machine Gun Battalion, in a farewell tendered to him by returned soldiers last evening. “The personnel to-day Is just as good as that in the last war.” he said. While it was only two weeks since he had taken over the unit he had soon found the personnel absolutely satisfactory. Lieutenant-Colonel Inglis continued. They wanted only moulding and training and they would do as well as the New Zealand soldiers had done in the past. Once fully trained the echelon would fully stand up to the part it was required to play. “The fact that the Dominion is virtually at war has hardly struck some of the population. It is not for me to say how the men should be obtained, but for the credit of this country they must be obtained. If they are not obtained they must offer their services.”
