NEW COMMISSIONER FOR NEW ZEALAND By Telegraph Press Association WELLINGTON, December 18. Lieutenant-Commissioner J. Evan Smith, Territorial Commander for Wales and the Western Territory of the United Kingdom, has been appointed Territorial Commander of the NewZealand Salvation Army, stated a cable message received by Lieutenant-Colonel Grattan, Chief Secretary, from London headquarters to-day. The appointment was made by General Carpenter, the new Commander of the Army. The new commissioner, who was bom in London, served the founder of the Army in a secretarial capacity and for many years was private secretary to General Booth. He saw work in many lands, including New Zealand, and became chief secretary in South Africa in 1931 and was appointed Territorial Commander for Wales and the Western Territory three years ago.
