Brown established the first Brewery in Timaru on the 22nd January, 1868, and within a year from Sto 12 HogswSmCTT heads were brewed weekly. One great difficulty to contend with in Timaru was the want of suitable water. ' Th e Brewery was later purchased by Messrs. Hole and Annett. and subsequently formed into the Timaru Brewery Co..‘Ltd. The water difficulty was overcome with the sinking of a well on the properly, and from this well is obtained a never-failing supply of pure and crystal-clear water.
