To-day the main part of the district is reticulated and the bulk of the people supplied with Electricity. Prices of Current have been Repeatedly Reduced until there are no Power Boards in similar situations offering lower charges than operate in South Canterbury. With a turnover approximating £lOO,OOO per annum the Board has a large staff to which is paid in wages and salaries £12,000 per year to attend to the wants of the five thousand consumers who patronise the business. Although not without year# in its history in which losses have been made the general result is such that from accumulated profits 25% assistance is given to the reticulation of remote areas and the powers of rating possessed by the Board have never been exercised. ■> South Canieiouiy Electric Power Board
