THE FIRST CHRISTMAS
High above in the night-clad sky Alone one bright star does shine. And towards its beam walk the three wise men Each laden with his gifts so fine. They come to halt for the rays of star Beam down on a small wooden shed. While inside the barn lies a newborn babe. With only the straw for his bed. His Mother and Joseph are sitting near by. While an ass looks in at the door, There the three wise men all shower the babe With their gifts of perfume and myrrh. And thus the first Christmas Day was begun. When the Jesus Lord was born In a tumble-down manger with straw at his head In that early December morn. (5 marks to Margaret Ayrey, age 15.)
