Biggest Battle of War Rages Finns Falling Back To Defences United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph —Copyright (Received November 15, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON. November 4. Soviet troops reached the Norwegian frontier when they occupied the blazing town of Salmijarvi. The Norwegians mined the frontier. The Finns, retreating, set fire to all shelter, lighting up the black panopied sky. The snow was coloured crimson by the heavy Russian losses. The biggest battle of the war continues at Salla, which is rne of two parallels of the thrust towards Tornio. Th. Russians are reported to be launching a third towards Kuusamo, from where the road leads to nulou. The Bergen corres _ndent of th 3 British United Press says that the Finns have fallen back within two miles of the Norwegian border. A message from Kirkenaes stat?s that the Russians are rapidly approaching Salmijarvi. which the Finns are evacuating and falling back defence lines further south. Five towns are ablaze and a vast region is covered with black srroke. A violent Soviet offensive continues in North Finland accompanied by continue s bombing of the nickel centres.
