GERALDINE DISTRICT NURSE

Valuable Services Annual Meeting Held Canon A. H. Norris was elected the new president of the Geraldine District Nurse Committee at the annual general meeting held yesterday afternoon. There was a good attendance present and Mr B. R. Macdonald presided. The general committee was reelected with the addition of the Revs. F. O. Prosser and W. R. Lapsley. The work of the Geraldine District Nurse continues as needful as ever stated the report. During the past financial year the nurse paid 1049 visits to the sick tan average of three a day) but of the total. 653 were made to patients who had not been charged for the service. The fees charged totalled £66 14. -. but fees collected only amounted to £59 7 6. With the annual grants the total receipts were £139 06. The expenditure, including salary, car expenses and other items was £276 1/5, leaving a deficiency of £137/0/11, which had been paid by the Hospital Board. In the eight months of the current year, the report continued, the nurse had paid 837 visits and of these 553 were not charged for. To date £36 7 - had been received in payment and the grant from the Hobson Trust Fund of £2O brought the total receipts to £56/7/-, which had been forwarded to the Hospital Board. During the year the Rev. W. J. Couling, the president, had removed to the North Island, and the committee extended to him the best wishes for his future. The secretary (Mr T. H. Bannehr) said a letter had been received from the daughter of a very sick mother paying tributes to the work being carried out by Nurse Rattray. Other verbal tributes had also been made. In moving the adoption of the report, Dr L. C. Mail said the report gave an excellent idea of the work being carried out, and the way their finances were being looked after by their very capable secretary. It was also pleasing a note that the nurse’s services were being appreciated. It had been thought that the Social Security Scheme might have some effect on the nurse, but in any case her services could not be done without. It was agreed to allocate £4O to the car renewal fund, which showed a credit of £B6/15 6. The secretary reported that a grant of £7 had been received from the St. Barnabas Guild and £l/17/6 had also been received. Congratulations on attaining 90 years of age were conveyed to the secretary, and the meeting expressed the hope that he would continue to enjoy good health. The chairman also paid tributes to their past president (the Rev. W. J. Couling) who had removed to the North Island. One month’s holiday was granted the nurse and the secretary reported that arrangements had been made for Miss E. Templer, of Geraldine, to relieve during the nurse’s absence.
