ASHBURTON R.C.

ACCEPTANCES By Telegraph—Press Association ASHBURTON, November 21. The following acceptances have been received for the Ashburton Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday:— 1220 p.m. APPRENTICES’ HANDICAP, Of £100; 7 furlongs

Our Jean, favourite for the Cambridge Handicap on Saturday, might have won but for getting away very badly, even after this misfortune finishing fourth. Three furlongs from home she had only one horse behind her. The big filly made atonement by winning on Monday, and she is likely to achieve further distinction.

The Paper Money stallion Inflation, secured another winner when Deflation finished on just too well for the Trentham representative Coronado in the Maiden Race at Levin. Four of Inflation’s first crop, including the brilliant Duncannon, have now been successful, and his stock are giving promise of being valuable acquisitions to the Turf. Inflation was one of the best-looking of the large number of horses sired by Paper Money.

It is alleged that one man connected with J. T. Jamieson’s stable lost £2OOO when High Caste, an odds on favourite, finished out of place in the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley, and that in an endeavour to recoup himself he finished nearly £5OOO out on the day. The £2OOO investment is described as the biggest plunge in Melbourne for years, but it is comparatively insignificant beside some of the operatiins of the boom days 50 years ago. It is on record that when Titan missed a place in the Caulfield Guineas of 1890 his owner, Mr E. G. Brodribb, invested £ll,OOO on him.

H. and A. Cutts will have three of the Clifford horses for the Auckland trip at Christmas. They are Paper Slipper, Wild Talk and Great Swoop. T. H. Gillett will have the smart two-year-old Doria, provided she trains on all right, and she should run well in the Foal Stakes. Spartan will accompany her. P. V. Mason will have Stylist and Omapo, two Nightmarch maidens, both likely to win before long. Mr M. O’Brien will wait till after the Ashburton meeting on Saturday before he makes his plans for Dictate, but if all goes well with him he is likely to be a starter in the Auckland Cup, a race in which he was third last year. If Haughty Winner does any racing during the holidays it will be at Manawatu, followed by Walrarapa. H. R. Davis plans to do the Dunedin meeting. Sovereign Lady will be the chief member of his team, and she may be accompanied by one of her owner’s two-year-olds. They are both by Myosotis, one of them being Muffler, from Muff, and the other Rue, from Reproachful. S. Barr will have the consistent Flame Queen for Wingatui, also Gay Hussar, not long in fast work after a spell. Royal Lassie, Phil and Bright Prospect will be on the West Coast. P. McGrath may have Plumage for the trip south, and this useful hack may be accompanied by Good Health. F. D. Jones has no definite plans yet, but with Settlement, Prudent Prince and Lady Leigh available, also three smart novices. Sweet Mystery, King’s Toast and Lord Lynn, he has material from which to choose a useful team. D. Cotton expects to go south with Pink Lad, Rebel Lad, Blue Coat and the unraced two-year-old Highland Dance, by Pink Coat-Keel Row. W. J. Cameron has Knight Commander for the distance races in the south. Another of his team. Lady Middleham, may do the West Coast.
