DUTCH SHOOT DOWN MACHINE
United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, November 20. According to the Paris paper “Excelsior,” Germany has sent Notes to Belgium and Holland warning them not to attack German aeroplanes flying over their territory, otherwise Germany will take immediate measures to counter aggression. The Notes are reported to assert that Belgium and Holland have not opposed with force Allied control of their shipping, for which reason Germany claims the right to fly over their territory. Authoritative circles in the Netherlands, however, emphatically discount the “Excelsior’s” report of a German threat. A German military aeroplane crashed in Dutch territory while attempting a forced landing. The pilot was killed. It is officially stated that Dutch anti-aircraft guns fired on the aeroplane before it crashed. Tlie Amsterdam correspondent of “The Times” states that Berlin reports indicate that when Dutch aircraft chased a German seaplane from Vlieland on Saturday, one of the German pilots was wounded. Permanent leave in the Netherlands Army has been restored after being cancelled on November 10. when threats of Nazi troop concentrations ot> the borders caused tension in Holland.
The mouth of the river Scheldt has been re-opened to shipping.
