HITLERISM
Sir, —A booklet (which reached me through the thoughtfulness of a. firend) by R. C. K. Ensor, gives ah account of Hitler’s disclosures of policy in “Mein Kampf.” It describes briefly Hitler’s theory of “race,” the doctrine of lebensraum, and the scale of annexations prescribed for Greater Germany with a 100 years hence population of 250.000,000 of pure Nordic stock. As I read the advertisement of the
member for Temuka which appeared in your columns a few days since, it w T as impressed on my mind that already “the past quartering out of a largely Nordic stock over vast areas outside Europe by the British, which alwavs evokes Herr Hitler’s respect” is. in its result a logical corollary to the Fuhrer’s vision of the Reich’s future. The Niemeyeric peasant class exists, albeit “squeezed together as factory coolies for the rest of the world.’’ most certainly not “as peasants and workers who reciprocally assure each other’s livelihood by what they produce.” For that reciprocal assurance is subordinated to the interests of unpayable debts, the holders whereof are the superNordic Shylocks of the Nation—a race which waxes and grows fat on the spoils of deflation. Hitler visualises no such negation of reciprocal assurance of each other’s livelihood: he emphatically declared “There is no money problem.” That declaration is at once the debt holders menace—and the peasants and workers reciprocally assured livelihood. The Pope, who declared that the holders of a country’s monetary control, controlled all else, branded the money system under which we live the ne plus ultra of Hitlerism. Konrad Heidon says that as a political phenomenon, and a human being. Hitler is a symbol of our time. Our time has given him politically unfettered power; his life in the “Home for Men” has made him an economic iconoclast. Heidon is a fair but hostile critic.—l am, etc., T. POWELL.
