BOYS OUT OF HAND

Incidents at Training Farm

By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON. June 23. Reports from Levin indicate a serious state of affairs at the Weraroa Boys' Training Farm, and the rumour

appears to be borne out by the presence of a detachment of police there. Both police and officials at the farm are reticent, but according to the correspondent of the “Evening Post” there it is known that a night or two ago a determined attempt was made to burn down one of the main buildings. but owing to the vigilance of the attendants the fire was discovered and suppressed before much damage was done On the following evening between 20 and 30 windows were deliberately broken. Owing to fears of other attempts at incendiarism, four constables and a sergeant were dispatched to the farm from Wellington and Palmerston North. It is known, too. that the Minister in charge of the Police Department ithe Hon. P. Fraseri, accompanied by Dr. Beeby and other officials, went to the farm on Tuesday and that the youths were paraded and addressed by the Minister. It is further reported that seven constables under the charge of a sergeant were patrolling the institution yesterday. and rumour says there are several escapees still at large. Mr Fraser was in Auckland yesterday, and all inquiries from official some,-- in Willington this morning in his absence brought no response.
