UNECONOMIC FARMS
DISCHARGED SOLDIER SETTLERS By Telegraph —Press Association WELLINGTON. June 22. The proposals made by the Government to deal with uneconomic farms have been opposed by the Executive Committee of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, because it is considered they would not be in the interests of discharged soldier settlers. The conference to-day approved of the action taken and resolutions were carried reaffirming the general land policy of 1938; that the Association continue to press for the institution of an independent tribunal to deal with all aspects of soldier settlement problems, as contained in the resolutions of the 1938 council; that any representative of the Returned Soldiers’ Association on the committee of investigation of uneconomic units should be paid a satisfactory daily rate of remuneration by the Government while engaged on the business of the inquiry; and that headqquarters be authorised to continue its efforts to have reduced capital values as decided by the Court of Review registered against appropriate Crown leases.
