FASHION SILHOUETTE
Short full skirts, nipped-in waists, fitted rib hugging bodices, sums up the new young-looking little girl silhouette. Skirts sometimes as much as 17 inches from the ground, shoulders squared but not exaggerated, sleeves mostly plain sums up the spring collections at the Paris fashion displays. The craze for petticoats and lingerie touches puts wool right in the middle of the fashion picture; for these crisp petticoats of faille, or lace and lawns and these beautiful hand-made white blouses, collars and hat streamers just ask for suits, dresses and coats of rich matt-surfaced wool to show them to perfection. The “body” of wool gives the necessary swing for the complete success of the full-skirted mode. Bright, hard, clear colours—china blue, a greenish kingfisher blue, powder, royal and turquoise blue, lemon, greenish chartreuse and mimosa yellows—all the sunshine oranges, lemons and chestnut browns used by Alix and Rouff. Crinolines of lace, net and dimity—full skirted dresses with strapless fitted bodices, low cut on the hips and finishing with a point back and front for evening wear, Directoire dresses with tiny gathered bodices and straight skirts giving great length of limb, swing-back coats often accompany them.
