TREE PLANTING SCHEME
High field to Mark Centennial Fairways to be Pleasant Walks The Timaru Golf Club has decided to commemorate the centennial of the Dominion by an extensive tree planting programme. It is intended to plant at least 2000 trees on various parts of the course and in a few years the links should be a place of beauty with a park-like effect. Rugged gullies will give way to sheltered fairways and pleasant walks. It is proposed to include a plantation of pinus insignis trees in what is known as the Chasm gully, also a
nor’-west breakwind along the boundary from Page’s Road to the Plantation green as well as clumps in other parts. The Committee is inviting members to participate in the scheme by contributing small sums for the purchase of the trees and to cover the cost of labour for planting. The response so far has been good, the idea being regarded as a very suitable centennial gesture and of great value in the beautification of the course.
