MINIATURE RIFLES

Club Activities Improved Performances (By ".303"> In the Wally Best Shield competition this week Timaru C beat West End A by one point. The scores were 392 to 391. The scores of the Timaru Club were J. Murray 80, E. Healy 79, M. Healy 79. T. Healy 77. J. Healy 77. Pleasant Point A tied with Timaru A 392 each. The Duncan Shield match Pleasant Point 1 tied with Timaru 2 399 each, Colmoco 2 beat Timaru 3. Colmoco 1 beat Pleasant Point 2. West End tied with Fairview and Pleasant Point 3 beat Timaru 1. The Railway Club's shooting was only fair this week. A. Adkins was the only member to make an outstanding score.

In the Brown Cup (Ladies' Teams’ Competition), Fairview made 400, West End 398, Orari Ladies 392, Orari Bridge 388, Colmoco B 384, Colmoco A 381.

At the Washdyke Club’s third weekly shoot D. Doake and B. Moore each made 79 and R. Moore 78. In the fourth shoot there was a big improvement, D. Doake, B. Moore, H. King and R. Moore each scoring 79. The rest of the scores were nothing startling.

At Makikihi, G. Park was top scorer this week with 78. The club slipped a little, three 77's being the next best scores.

The Fairview club is doing much belter this year. W. Jackson 79, N. Dale and R. Brown 78 each were the top scorers for the week.

At Pleasant Point, C. Thoreau, J. Stevenson and D. Doak each made the possible and W. T. Taylor, F. E. Malcolmson and Miss B. Taylor each 78. It is pleasing to see Miss Taylor come up like this. Mrs Browm is not doing quite so well. K. Candy seems to have slipped.

For the Waimate Club, J. Dunlop made 79, and T. Cochrane and D. Dench 78 each. The women are not outstanding but will improve.

It is very often noticeable that when a man starts off the season with highclass shooting, he seldom keeps it up. I always prefer to see a man improve as he goes along.

The Orari Ladies’ shooting is fair. In the No. 1 trophy match Mrs J. A. Henderson, Mrs W. Watson and Miss Mason each made 77. In the No. 2 trophy shoot, Mrs J. A. Henderson and Mrs Watson improved to 78, while Miss Mason dropped to 73.

The Timaru Club is keeping up its good name, W. Bradshaw who has been the champion so many times, secured a possible on Tuesday night. F. R. Cross, P. Foden, E. M. Healy and G. Maroa each made 79. There were nine 78's which made a club average of 78.6. The remainder of the members including a lot of first year men. are performing worthily.

For the Otipua Club. L. Jackson was top scorer with 78. This club never seems to change much. It has scored about the same average for years. Why?

The Willowbridge Club is outstanding. R. Kennard and A. Englebrecht secured the possible. C. Blair, S. F. Cojc, S. J. Richmond and H. Milton, jnt. each 79. There were also five 78’b making the club average 78.8 which will take a bit of beating.

West End is still keeping its good name. A. Meikle, J. Ewing, T. Wakefield and A. J. Jackson, J. Seaton and C. Blackwood each made 79. There were also four 78's making the club average. A, Meikle was the winner of the silver rifle. Mrs H. Currie and Miss M. Stewart made 79 each, and are shooting consistently.

For the Cave Club R. Moses with 78 was top scorer. This is another club that does not seem to get any further ahead. Ido not know why. It has one of the best ranges in New Zealand and every convenience. One of its troubles is lack of members.

The riflemen of South Canterbury join me in extending sympathy to Rifleman G. Park, of Makikihi, in the death of his father.

R. Kennard, of Willowbridge, who is a young shot, in the last four shoots has scored 79, 78, 76 and 80, an average of 781. A. Englebrecht, another young shot, has put on two consecutive possibles.

F. R. Crass, W. Duncan and W. Falloon of the Timaru Club each made possibles and will shoot off for the silver rifle on Tuesday night. For the Timaru championship F. R. Cross leads with 318. The next best are W. Falloon 315, W. Bradshaw 315, W. Heads 315 and E. M. Healy 314. There are 16 shoots and a competitor can throw out the worst four. Falloon has three possibles and can drop the 75. Cross has two possibles and two 79's which are very valuable in a championship. Bradshaw has two possibles and Healy and Duncan one each. Their other shoots can go out. C. Blair, of Willowbridge, seems to have the championship well in hand again this year with 396. J. c. Faulkner is next with 394. At the last shoot of the Winchester Ladies' Club, Miss L. Priddle was on top with 78. For the men’s club young Priddle came to the front with 80. The average for the week was 78.9. The club will be hard to beat in the Geraldine Association. For the Temuka Club, B. Edwards, E. Ellis and N. Joynt each 79 were top scorers for the week. Edwards has been shooting for a long time. The Glenavy Club's average 78.8, is good, A. Coumbe and L. Mountford

scored the possible 80, and C. Lindsay, N. Gibson, T. Wisely and N. Fleming each 79. The shooting is about the best in the Waimate Association at present, but Willowbridge is close up. The Morven Club should be doing better, there being too many 77’s and 78's. The average was only 77.2 this week. TIMARU CLUB At Tuesday night's shoot of the Timaru Miniature Rifle Club, the trophy was won by W. Duncan, and the silver rifle tied for by F. R. Cross. W. Duncan and W. Falloon with 80 off the rifle. The following were the best scores:—F. R. Cross 89, W. Duncan 80, W. Falloon 80, W. Bradshaw 79, W. Heads 79, T. Healy 79, J. M. Healy 78, C. H. Johnson 78. D. Mawer 78, K. Malthus 78, W.
