HIGHFIELD FACILITIES
To the Editor ot “ The Timaru Herald
Sir,—Now that "Advance Highfield” has broken the ice in agitating for postal facilities at Highfield, it behoves Highfield residents to strongly support him in bringing forward this long-wanted need. It is not necessary to enlarge on his letter as he has covered the ground adequately. The most essential need at the present time is a penny-slot telephone. To the best of my knowledge the nearest telephone box from the Highfield terminus is at the corner of Church and Wilson Streets. Surely Highfield deserves better treatment than this. It is a long felt overdue want, and it has only been the generosity of storekeepers and private owners in allowing residents the privilege of using their telephones to conduct urgent calls, that has somewhat relieved the situation. It is not everyone that tan afford to install a telephone. I am sure if a telephone box was installed at the Highfield terminus it would more than pay for itself in a few months.—l am. etc., UNTOUCHED HIGHFIELD. Timaru, May 31.
