TREATMENT OF WARTS

A COMMON TROUBLE A SIMPLE REMEDY As with warts on the hands of human beings, as yet nothing is known that will prevent the appearance of warts on cows’ teats, nor for that matter prevent their reappearance once they have been disposed of. In most cases the warts ultimately disappear of their own accord, but the period during which they persist may vary from weeks to months, and since they can interfere with the fitting of teat cups and also make the stripping process awkward, anything that will assist their disappearane will be welcomed by the shed hands.

A simple remedy for the trouble, that is stated to work very satisfactorily when applied regularly is a mixture of castor oil with 6 per cent of salicylic acid, which should be applied to the warts after each milking with a small brush, or a pad made by placing a wad of cottonwool on a piece of stiff wire. This will be found preferable to hand application, since salicylic acid tends to crack the hands.
