POWER BOARD

Monthly Meeting Committee Reports At the monthly meeting of the South Canterbury Power Board yesterday there w'ere present—Messrs G. Dash (chairman), C. E. Kerr, K. Mackenzie, A. W. Buzan, W. Scott, J. R. Hart, F. J. Cook, A. N. Oakey, R. E. White and Dr p. R. Woodhouse. General Committee The general committee reported as follows: Import restrictions, ranges, etc. — Having received a request from the Waikato Electric Power Board for the co-operation of the Board in an endeavour to having the import restrictions on ranges, etc., lifted until such time as the New Zealand manufacturers can supply the demand, the committee recommended that support be accorded this request through the Association.

Geraldine borough water pump—The engineer’s report, having been accepted by Mr Knight to whom it was referred, was commended for submission to the Geraldine Borough Council. Extensions—The engineer reported progress being temporarily help up in the matter of the extension at Motukaika, and that application for estimated cost of extension at Tripp Settlement was under investigation. Mr Mackenzie: Are there no New Zealand ranges available? The chairman: We are not affected, as we do not import. However, we thought it advisable to support the protest through the central body. The report was adopted.

Finance Committee

The finance committee reported as follows: Loan matters—The committee approved of the chairman’s correspondence with the Minister of Finance concerning 20 versus 10 year loans. Interest on loan—Audit Office having refused permission to the Board to pay the sum of £3B/7/3 interest on loan prior to receipt of money, it had been found necessary to seek validating legislation for this payment, which, in the adoption of the report, the secretary was instructed to proceed with. Electricity rates—The committee recommended the Board to reply to an application for a flat rate, expressing regret that the technical obstacles were insuperable. The report was adopted. Temuka Insulator Works The question of the supply of electricity to the Temuka Insulator Works was discussed in committee, and on resuming in open meeting the chairman reported that the Board had entered into an agreement with the works for supply with a minimum of £lOOO a year.
