TEACHER ABUSED

MARRIED WOMAN CONWICTED

An unusual case was heard in th( Cambridge Magistrates Court a fev days ago before Mr W. H. Freeman

S.M., when a Kaipaki woman was charged with abusing a teacher at the Kaipaki School in the presence of the pupils. Mr W. King, who appeared tor the defendant, stated that the trouble had occurred as a result of an accusation made by the teacher about one of defendant's children.

Mr W. R. Garrard, who represented the Education Board, said that on November 3 last the defendant came to the Kaipaki School and oecame abusive to the head teacher who tried to usher her from the ground. She then used unseemly language to a female teacher, who had endeavoured to keep the younger children at a distance.

The magistrate: She was evidently a difficult person to get rid of. Fortunately, we do not have many of these cases of people who think that their children are just it, and cannot be spoken to. It is bad for discipline.

Later, Mr Freeman asked if defendant had not expressed any regret at her action.

Mr King explained that he had expected her in court, but she had not appeared. He apologised on her behalf. Constable C. H. Maisey stated that there was not likely to be any further trouble. Defendant was the mother of nine children.

Mr Freeman: No wonder she gets ruffled occasionally. The defendant was convicted and ordered to pay costs.
