OLD MAORI WORKSHOP
INTERESTING DISCOVERY By Telegraph—Press Association TE AROHA, March 29. The discovery of a Maori workshop, probably last used about 100 years ago, has aroused wide interest. It is located at Ruakaka, near Th Aroha, on the mountain side. The discovery was made by Mr Charles Jennings, a local resident. The contents include 60 stone adzes, both in the rough and in a finished state, hammers, chisels, axes, and weapons of war. The locality was occupied before Te Aroha was formed by a hapu of the Ngatlmaru tribe, and the tools show a high-grade of Maori craftsmanship. The workshop was cut out of mountain hillside rock and is of fairly large dimensions.
