WEATHER SOUTH CANTERBURY FORECAST
CONDITIONS UNSETTLED Special to " The Timaru Herald." WELLINGTON,-March 24. Winds: Light to moderate but increasing southerlies. Weather: Becoming unsettled and rain probable, temperatures colder. Seas: Slight, but later rising. General Situation The depression over the Tasman Sea has moved eastward only slowly, but has deepened. Pressure is still very high over South-Eastern Australia. Forecast Winds: Light but freshening northerlies at first over most of the country, but southerlies in the south later, southerlies gradually becoming general and strong in places. Seas (N.Z. waters): Slight to moderate but later rising south of Cape Palliser. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong northerly winds at first in the central and northern portions, but a change to strong southerlies to gales advancing from the west and south. Seas rough to high. Weather: For the most part fine at first, but unsettled in the far south, and rain gradually extending thence over most of the country, especially the South Island; temperatures colder tomorrow. IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch: Yesterday was brilliontly fine and warm with a maximum temperature of 72.7 degrees. There was almost no wind, a very light easterly blowing in the afternoon. The barometer at 5 p.m. was 30.1 inches. Ashburton: Beautifully fine weather prevailed yesterday after chilly conditions early in the morning. Bright sunshine prevailed and there was only a light wind. Geraldine: Bright and warm. Temuka: The day was fine and sunny with a light easterly breeze. The maximum temperature was 72 degrees and the minimum 35. The glass was falling last evening. Waimate, 24 hours ended 9 a.m., Friday: Barometer, 29.4; thermometer, maximum, 64.5; minimum, 44.0: bright sunshine, 9 hours; wind gauge, miles run in last 24 hours, 47. Yesterday was sunny and warm. Dunedin: The sun shone brightly yesterday morning and the temperature reached a maximum of 70 degrees. The north-east breeze of the past few days fell away to a calm. The barometer, after falling in the morning, rose later to 30.17 inches.
