TEMUKA QUEEN CARNIVAL FUNDS

To Be Spent on Domain Equipment Decision of Board Although the Temuka Domain Board had intended to utilise the profits received from last year’s Queen Carnival to build a glass house in the Domain, it dropped this proposal at the monthly meeting on Wednesday night and decided instead to erect gymnastic equipment. The decision was made following a recommendation from the visiting committee, which stated in a report that it had discussed the building of a glass house with the curator. His opinion had been that while labour was available the building could be erected, but if Scheme 13 were discontinued, the present permanent staff could not cope with the extra work of attending to an additional glass house. “Considering that we have placed the sum of £l5O for the glass house on the estimates to keep faith with the people who supported us in the recent Queen Carnival, we suggest that the question of remodelling the children’s playground and the erection of gymnastic apparatus be discussed as an alternative to building a glass house,” the report said. Mr W. H. McMillan explained that the equipment was antiquated and required immediate attention. He was sure the proposal to erect up-to-date equipment would meet with the approval of the citizens of Temuka.

After a short discussion it was decided to obtain the necessary equipment and spend any surplus on equipping reserves at the north and east ends.

The Pleasant Point District High School was granted permission to hold its annual swimming sports in the Domain Baths on March 2. The curator, Mr G. Fletcher, reported that the oval had been drained during the month. Five field pipes and 36 concrete pipes had been used. The swings and see-saws had been renewed and painted.
