NEW COTTON PEST

SERIOUS MENACE TO GROWERS UNITED STATES PROBLEM A new pest, said to be a more serious menace to cotton growers than the boll-weevil, which made its appearance about 15 years ago, is said to have attacked cotton, maize, sugar cane and other crops in the United States. It is believed that this latest pest was introduced in materials imported from South America, as it was first discovered on a wharf in New Orleans at which a vessel from the southern continent was unloading. Since that time over 10,000 acres of farm lands have become infested and entomologists are unable to suggest satisfactory measures for its eradication.
