REDUCTION AIMED AT By Tel egrapb—pres.® Association AUCKLAND. December 9. Addressing students of the Auckland Teachers’ Training College at the final assembly to-day, the Hon. P. Fraser, Minister of Education, said that from a humble beginning made in 1879 when there were six students trained at the Wellesley Street School to-day New Zealand had four training colleges with over 1500 students, and n—t year there would be approximately 1600. Auckland had the only really creditable college with adequate grounds and equipment, but before long other centres would be in a similar position. It was the Government’s intention to train sufficient teachers to enable overlarge classes to be reduced.
