FAIRY BLIND

The world is full of fairies, Only people will not look, They think that fairies only live inside a story-book. When grown-ups say there are none, And children say so too, Then fairies come from Fairyland To prove it isn’t true. But, even then, not always, Can fairies make them see, Just as some folk are “colour-blind,” Some “fairy-blind” must be. They never see a fairy Though one should be close by, They look, and think it’s something else— A leaf, a stone, a fly! So if YOU should see a Fairy That other folk can’t find, You’ll know it isn’t you that’s wrong, THEY must be “fairy-blind.”

KOWHAI WINE

The tui is intoxicate; I think he must have been out late! For in his singing he will stop To pull a cork out with a pop! Then with a gurgle rich and full. He tilts his head and takes a pull! (Sent by Denis Leary, Orari.)
