THE ADVENTURES OF MICHAEL

Michael’s going to the country to spend a week or more With his good friend, Mr Kaka, of whom you’ve heard before. He meets his old friend, Farmer Hare, who talks for quite an hour, And as Mike leaves presents him with a fine big cauliflower.

Then Sarah comes with her fat twins, which she presents most proudly. Mike lifts his hat to each in turn, whereat they giggle loudly. Says Sarah, “In the country, where it’s nice and quiet and cool, You’ll feel, I’m sure, like knitting, so let me give you wool.”

Michael hurries on his journey, afraid that he’ll be late, But he is hailed by Mervyn Mouse, who leans across his gate. “I’m now a Market Gardener,” Mervyn says, “so Michael, please Accept these juicy carrots. There are none as fine as these!"

Mike feels he’s overloaded as he staggers down the lane. When he sees Henry’s Pumpkin Farm he groans and groans again! “Will I accept a pumpkin?” mutters Michael grimly.—“ Never!" And slouches past with hat pulled down and feels he is quite clever.
