HEALTH CAMPS

Sale of Stamps Efforts in Timaru South Canterbury has always been in the front rank in the amassing of funds for the annual health camps for children, and this year seems so far to be no exception to the rule, for according to the Chief Postmaster at Timaru the sales of health stamps in the district and the number of donations received by the South Canterbury Health Camp Committee is well maintaining the standard set in past years. Exact figures for stamp sales are not yet available, but an excellent response has been received from the public by the members of the ladies’ committee who have been selling stamps in the vestibule of the Post Office every afternoon. Various organisations have also sent in generous donations, or bought quantities of stamps in response to circulars.

The committee has also Just sent circulars to all parents in the district, for distribution to all school-children, describing the scheme, and announcing a sale of stamps at all Timaru schools, to take place on Monday next, except at Waimataitai, where two members of the ladies’ committee will arrange a sale next Wednesday. The general appeal now being conducted in the district will last until Christmas, although the stamps will actually remain on sale until well on into February. A canvas is also being made of the business people of the town, by members of the Timaru Rotary Club, for the stamp sales sub-committee of the Health Camp Committee. If previous results are maintained, there is no doubt that the canvass will render the fund valuable assistance. Circular- letters have also been sent to 250 local bodies and organisations in and around Timaru. asking for donations, or purchases of health stamps, and, so far, the response has been very satisfactory. The chairman and two members of the executive of the South Canterbury Health Camp Committee visited Waimate on Wednesday evening, and interviewed the Waimate committee, arrangements for the South Canterbury camp, to be held at Waimate, being fully discussed, and many important items being brought to the final stage. There was every indication that the camp would be a great success. South Canterbury has usually in the past contributed far more, in stamp sales, than some centres of much greater population, and, when allocations are made pro rata, the district benefits accordingly. Straightout donations. of course, are directly administered by the local committee.
