Dr. F. A. Maguire, a well-known Sydney surgeon, who has made a study of cancer, will attend the tenth Australian-New Zealand cancer conference, to be held at Wellington from February 15-18. Tire Rev. M. W. P. Lascelles, former secretary to the Baptist Union, has accepted a call to the Baptist Church in Cambridge. He will begin his ministry early in February.

Mr G. H. Symons, accountant of the Port Line, London, arrived at Auckland by the Port Auckland from England via New York. After touring the Dominion he will proceed to Australia.

Mr F. H. Waters, Commissioner of Crown Lands, Dunedin, has received notice of his transfer to Wellington to take over the position of deputy valuergeneral. Mr Waters will leave Dunedin towards the end of January.

After more than 30 years’ service with the Huddart Parker Line, Captain R. Darroch, master of the Westralia, has been appointed to command the Wanganella. Captain Darroch will succeed Captain G. B. Bates, who has commanded the Wanganella since she was introduced on the Tasman rim in 1932. Captain Bates went on special leave in October.

Lord and Lady Galway arrived in Auckland from Lake Tarawera yesterday afternoon, accompanied by the Hon. Mary and the Hon. Celia Monckton, Lieutenant S. R. Le H. Lombard-Hobson, R.N., and Captain R. Stuart French, A.D.C.’S. Their Excellencies have taken up residence at Government House, where they will remain for some time.
