A CHANGE FOR TEA AND DINNER TIME Sedgemoor spicy biscuits are among those many English teatime dainties which have won world-wide fame. Made at home, they are delicious. You’ will need Jib flour, Hb butter, lib castor sugar, i lb currants, J teaspoonful cinnamon, 1 egg and 2 tablespoonfuls brandy. Rub the butter into the flour, add sugar, currants, spice and cinnamon. Beat the egg well, and mix with the brandy. Then mix with dry ingredients. Roll out about half an inch thick, cut in round, and bake in a moderate oven for about 20 minutes. For those who care for coffee flavouring, coffee frappe is an ideal party sweet. Take 1 cupful sugar, 1 cupful strong coffee, 1 cupful whipped cream, and i teaspoonful salt.

Boil the sugar and water together for five minutes. Add the coffee and salt, cool, then fold in the stiffly whipped cream. When quite cold, serve in tall glasses, with a spoonful of whipped cream on top of each. Garnish with preserved cherries. This last sweet was designed for someone on a sugarless diet (whether , for slimming or health reasons): Stew some apples, with lemond rind and orange rind. Decorate with prunes in which the stone has been replaced by a grilled almond.
