Christchurch—A brilliantly fine and warm morning on Saturday with a north-west wind changed to overcast with southerly wind in the afternoon. Yesterday was overcast all day and again a north-west wind in the morning changed to south-west in the afternoon with fairly steady rain. The barometer was rising slowly last evening. Dunedin— After a brilliantly fine and warm morning the weather broke on Saturday afternoon and one of the heaviest and most prolonged falls of rain recorded for years ensued. Torrential rain fell without cessation until the evening and later commenced again, continuing throughout the night. The total rainfall from midnight on Friday until yesterday afternoon when the sky was clearer and the rain had stopped was 4.04 inches. Saturday’s fall was 2.80 inches. The maximum temperature on Saturday was 69 degrees and yesterday 52 degrees. The barometer rose yesterday to 29.85 inches.
