New Zealand Association Annual Meeting By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, November 4. Only a few remits around which centred a good deal of discussion were considered at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council tonight. Mr A. H. Allen (Otago) presided. For the South Auckland Association, Mr G. Mortlock moved that the rule governing Hawke Cup matches be amended to provide that the ground charge did not exceed £5. This was carried unanimously. A further amendment to the rule providing that the maximum expenditure for the afternoon tea each day be 15/- was also carried. A remit, also moved by South Auckland, that the profits from the match be divided so that the local association receives 50 per cent, the visiting association 45 per cent and the New Zealand Council 5 per cent instead of 65 per cent, 30 per cent and 5 per cent respectively, as at present, was lost. For the Southland Association, Mr K. B. Bain moved that the biennial inter-change of visits between Australian and New Zealand teams be arranged. An amendment moved by Mr W. L. King, of the Canterbury, Association that the management committee be thanked for its efforts in endeavouring to arrange an inter-change of visits was carried unanimously. Mr G. T. Weston, for the Taranaki Association, moved that the Associations concerned in challenge matches for the Hawke Cup be given the right of one umpire. The motion was lost after discussion. Election of Officers Officers elected were—Patron, Lord Galway; president, Mr W. R. Fee (Auckland); vice-presidents, presidents of affiliated associations; management committee, Messrs D. E. Wanklyn, J. L. Kerr, S. G. Lester, J. Ramsden, H. M. Taylor; treasurer, Mr E. R. Caygill; secretary, Mr E. E. Luttrell; auditor, Mr A. E. Byrne. Mr Wanklyn was reappointed chairman of the Management Committee. New Captain Needed As T. C. Lowry and M. L. Page would be available no longer for the captaincy of the New Zealand Cricket team, it would be necessary to find another captain, said Mr Wanklyn. First-class captains were more often born than made, but experience did count a great deal He said that he had noticed tha: there seemed to be a general tendency not to allow young players of definite promise sufficient opportunity to gain experience in captaincy. One saw an unfortunate tendency to consider age as one of the first essentials of a captain. This was definitely not so, and he suggested for the consideration of administrators of cricket that youthful promise, which would be cultivated by experience, was of more value in captaincy than mere years. T. C. Lowry Sole Selector Mr Wanklyn announced that Mr T. C. Lowry (Hawke’s Bay) had accepted the position of sole selector of the New Zealand cricket team, when reporting on the decision of the committee to r'vert to the sole selector. Speaking on the decision, Mr Wanklyn said that the principle of a sole selector was undoubtedly sound and should result in the building up of a well-balanced side. It was unfortunate that the Plunket Shield fixtures this season would again bring to notice one human failing—the impossibility of being in two places at once. Cup For Bowling A silver cup to perpetuate the memory of Mr W. H. Winsor, for many years a member of the management

committee of the New Zealand Council and latterly its honorary secretary, has been presented to the council by Mr A. T. Donnelly (Christchurch). This announcement was made by the chairman, who said that the Management Committee recommended that the Council accept the trophy, which was to be awarded for bowling, along the same lines as the Redpath Cup was for batting.
