PERSONAL Mr and Mrs W. Davzson. Oamaru. are at present visiting Orari Bridge as the guests of Miss Dawson. Miss Joan Watkinson. Christchurch, who has bene staying with Miss Been Thornley has returned home. Mrs J. South, who has been visiting the North Island accompanied by Mr and Mrs J. Sutherland, Timaru. is expected home at the week-end. Miss Ueen Thornley will leave at the week-end for Christchurch, where she will be the guest of Miss Joan Watkinson during SJiow Week. W.D.F.U. At the October meeting of the Orari Bridge branch of the Women’s Division. Mrs H. Coulter presided over a good attendance of members. Arrangements were finalised for the concert and dance to be held to raise funds. Members were asked to bring any new recipes they had which might be suitable for the Women's Division Centennial Cookers’ Book. A collection of parcels and several donations were received f — the Makogai Leper Appeal. It was hoped to have a lecture from Miss V. Macmillan, organiser of the A.C.E.. at the November meeting. Mrs R. Tagg gave a very interesting and practical demonstration on the icing and decorating of Christmas cakes. On the motion of Mrs Johnston, Mrs Tagg was accorded a vote of thanks. The competitions for the month were as follows: Best bloom, Mrs J. Johnston (pansy). Mrs P. G. Scott (poppy). Mrs F. E. South (ranunculi). Two lettuce, Mrs F. E. South 1. Mrs P. G. Scott 2, Mrs J. Johnston 3. Article for kitchen costing not more than 1/6, Mrs J. Johnston 1, Mrs R. Tagg 2, Mrs Coombes 3. Mesdames W. Inglis. J. Johnston and Miss B. Lysaght were hostesses. OCTOBER WEATHER Fine sunny weather was experienced during October, rain having been recorded on six days only. The first fall was recorded on October 10. when 21 points c." rain fell.
