Troops searching a village lying north from Ramallah surprised a gang, of which five members were killed and two were wounded. A Beirut message states that 15 Arabs were injured and 40 arrested in a clash with the police while demonstrating against the partition of Palestine. A general strike is advocated throughout Syria. Rioters stopped a funeral and burned the coffin on the roadside.
