RICCARTON NEWS FINAL GALLOPS BEFORE CUP Special to " The Tiniaru Herald.' CHRISTCHURCH, November 3. Conditions were pleasant for the final fast gallops at Riccarton this morning. The outside of the course proper provided good going, and there was plenty in the work to arouse interest. Willie Win, Malagigi, Arctic King. Argentic, The Buzzer and Padishah all pleased their admirers. Of the Stewards' Handicap horses. Counterblast and Paper Slipper did best, but Surmount, Alunga and Gay Son were others that went well. Counterblast, first out, ran five furlongs in Imin 1 2-ssec, the best effort of the morning, the last four in 48 4-ssec. Royal Star II and Sigurd took Imin 4 l-.ssec for five furlongs. Paper Slipper did the best six furlongs in Imin 16sec, the last four in 49 2-Ssec. Trench Fight, after doing 50sec for the first half, completed a mile in Imin 44 4-ssec. Happy Night and Great Baby took Imin 18 2-ssec for six furlongs. Good Passage and Great Flight were on terms at the end of seven furlongs in Imin 31 2-ssec, the last four taking 52sfec. Disdain reeled off seven furlongs in Imin 29 2-ssec, doing the last four in 49 l-ssec. Winning Rival dashed over half a mile in 49sec, while the North Island two-year-olds, Lord Midas, Baron, and Nora Gregor, ran down the straight without being timed. Sovereign Lady went alone for nine furlongs, the last mile in Imin 43sec and the last half in 52 4-ssec. She was lame afterwards. Nightcaim registered Imin 2 4-ssec for five ftirlongs, and Benevolent did half a mile easily in 56sec. Keen Sight beat Happy Memory over half a mile in 48 2-ssec, Scuffle easily doing half a mile along the back in 51 2-ssec. Daniel Defoe led Beaulivre in a sprint down the straight. Kinnoull was not hurried to do Imin 4 2-ssec for five furlongs. Lady Montana and Saki ran six furlongs in Imin 17 2-ssec. Surmount outpaced Rakahanga over half a mile in 49sec. Peter Beckford went well over five furlongs in Imin 3sec. Wild Chase and The Bigot were companions for seven furlongs, taking 38sec for the first three, and Imin 29 3-ssec for the full journey, with Wild Chase in front. Sparkle took 53sec for an easy halfmile. Padishah and The Buzzer went a mile. They were together all down the straight. The Buzzer staying on to finish in front in Imin 43 l-ssec after doing the first half in 50 3-ssec.

Kilrobe, Sly Fox, Gillie and Rousseau were associated over a mile. Kilrobe set the pace, having a good lead when she reached the half-mile post in 49 3-ssec. She continued well clear of Sly Fox and Gillie to the end in Imin 42 4-feseC Rousseau was several lengths furthei back all the Way.

Cup Horses Six New Zealand Cup horses were sent a miie and a quarter. They went off slowly, and at the mile post Arctic King, Milford. Argentic and Boomerang were in that order, with Willie Win and Cape Gabo further back. When the straight was reached Willie Win and Cape Gabo had improved their positions. Argentic and Arctic King were showing the way a furlong from the post, but Willie Win finished on strongly to beat this pair, with Cape Gabo next, while Boomerang and Milford were a bit further away. The last mile was run in Imin 44 l-ss£c. and the last half in 51 l-ssec. Willie Win finished impressively. Roy Bun beat Nereus over six furlongs in Imin 17 3-ssec. and Peerless was too good for Rabble over seven in Imin 29sec. Happy Landing w ? as just in front of Tide waiter and Wotan at the end of nine furlongs, the last mile being done in Imin 46sec, while they came home fast over the last half in 51sec. All three went well. Miss Buff took Imin 34 l-ssec for seven furlongs. Triune ran five furlongs in Imin 4sec, time which Wine Card and Cocksure equalled. Alunga was clear of Gay Son and Gay Chou over five furlongs in Imin 2 2- the last four in 50sec. Alunga seemed to move scratchily before his work. Lord Cavendish and Prime Quality were not hurried to do five furlongs in Imin 4sec. Moorsotis narrowly beat Master Hotspur over half a mile in 49 l-ssec. Beaupartir, Night Hawk, and Night Dress were in that order, with gaps between them, at the end of six furlongs in Imin 16 2-ssec. Racecall beat Skyrina over half a mile in 49sec. Recollection and Flame Queen took Imin 32sec for seven furlongs. Defaulter, Malagigi and Mungatoon were companions over a mile. Mungatoon set the pace, reaching the halfmile in 51 l-ssec. but there was nothing between the three at the end. the full journey taking Imin 42 4-ssec. All came home well. Romarin took Imin 18sec to run six furlongs. Iceland Spar and Bere Regis ran half a mile in 50 2-ssec, Glenacre going up the back in 52 l-ssec. Tantivy beat The Duel over five furlongs in Imin 5 l-ssec. Lady Leigh had a mate over half a mile in 49sec. Nigella and Silver Lark took 525e3 for half a mile. Dictate had Manetho as an assistant over six furlongs in Imin 18sec. Wagner drew out from Aggravate at the end of five furlongs in Imin 4 4-5 sec. Second Innings headed Rebellion on the post after taking Imin 19 2-ssec for six furlongs, time that The Masquerader and Miracle equalled. Gay Parade and Mondello ran half mile well in 49 2-ssec.
