“Our Royal Shows at present are nothing more nor less than glorified local shows, and I think a great deal of inferior stock is shown because the entry fees are so low,'” said Sir William Perry at a meeting of the Royal Show Council in Hamilton, in advocating the centralisation of tile Royal Show in Wellington. Sir William Perry strongly advocated that the entry fees should be increased to ensure a better class of stock being exhibited. He said that any show held any distance from the south of the North Island or north of the South Island vas not a representative one. A representative fixture would attract exhibitors from Australia and other overseas countries.
