Parking on Carriers’ Stand Offender Ordered To Pay Costs A case in which a motorist had parked on a carriers’ stano in Strathailan Street was brought before Mr H. Morgan, S.M., at the Timaru Magistrate’s Court yesterday, as a warning to motorists generally, Inspector D. Cameron of the Timaru Borough Council Traffic Department, who prosecuted, intimating, that as the case was the first of its kind to be brought before the Court, he did not wish to press for a heavy penalty. The defendant was convicted and ordered to pay 3/- costs. The defendant, George Frank Cumming pleaded guilty to the charge. Inspector D. He had delayed too long in the refreshment room at the Ashburton Station, and the train was moving out when he had attempted to board it. Defendant had fallen between the carriage and the platform. He had escaped serious Injury, but he was very lucky to be alive at all. The Magistrate remarked that it was a very dangerous thing to do, and that defendant might easily have been killed or severely injured. After defendant had assured the Court that the statements in iris letter to the Bench were true, Mr Morgan remarked that he had had a severe lesson, which could be taken to some extent as a punishment. Cycling Without Lights Reginald Francis Carroll Hood, who appeared voluntarily, was fined 10/with costs 3/- for cycling without a light. Similarly charged Gilbert Kendal Maurice Mayo and George Thin were each fined 7/6 and costs 10/Traffic Breaches Sydney Madden (Waimate) was fined 10/- and costs 10/- for driving a light delivery van without a driver’s license, and a further 10/- and costs 10/- for not having a warrant of fitness. George Waller was fined 10/- with costs 10/- for driving a delivery van vithout a driver’s license, and a siimilar penalty was Imposed on Elspeth Mary Fitzgerald who had driven a car without a warrant of fitness. Kavanagh Rondel (Dunedin), was fined 12/6, with costs 10/-, for driving a motor van without a warrant of fitness. and Leo Palmer Chapman (Mayfield) was fined 15/-, with costs 12/-, for towing an unregistered trailer in Stafford Street. Gilbert Sharman, who had driven a motor-cycle "'ithout a warrant of fitness, was fined 10/- with costs 10/-.
