N.Z. CENTENNIAL
ACCOMMODATING VISITORS By Telegißph Pres* Association WELLINGTON, November 2. The accommodation of the large number of visitors to centres during the Centennial celebrations at the end of next year is viewed by the Government as a major question for solution. The Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. W. E. Parry) in an interview, said that the provision which had necessarily to be made was not wholly the responsibility of the Government, though the Government recognised that it had need to assist in all ways found to be practicable. Local bodies, hotel and guest house proprietors and citizens were, he said, expected to show their weight in helping and would no doubt do so. “I can give a definite assurance,” Mr Parry said, “that the Government will not be lacking in the efforts made to solve the problem.” The Minister said as an example of the serious view the Government took of the question that it had set up a National Centennial Accommodation Commission. “The Government will, of course, await the recommendation of the committee before taking action,” Mr Parry said. "The absence abroad of two or three of the Committee’s personnel has held up consideration cl a number of matters, but the Committee will be assembled at a meeting to be held shortly.”
