Magisterial Recount Mr Kidd’s Majority Increased WAIMATE, November 2. Mr D. C. Kidd, the Nationalist candidate for the Waitaki electorate, increased his majority over the sitting member, Mr D. Barnes (Labour) from 10 votes to 14 as a result of the Magisterial recount of votes which concluded at 2.45 p.m. to-day. The recount figures were as follows: D. Barnes 4643 D. C. Kidd 4657 Informal 69 Majority for Kidd .... 14 The recount commenced In the presence of the Magistrate, Mr H. Morgan, S.M., at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Following was the position of the candidates at the conclusion of the official count:— D. C. Kidd 4668 D. Barnes 4658 Informal 43 Majority for Kidd .... 10 The Magisterial recount was held on the application of Mr Barnes. The Informal votes were increased by 28 under the Magisterial recount. Mr Barnes’ total was reduced by 15 and Mr Kidd’s by 11, which accounts for the increase in the informal votes.
