SCOTT—CONE The marriage of Gladys Lilian, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs J. B. Cone, Orari, and Thomas Percy, eldest son of Mr and Mrs L. P. Scott, Raukapuka, was celebrated recently at the Orari Presbyterian Church which had been decorated by friends of the bride. The Rev. J. N. Reid officiated, and Miss N. M. White, Timaru, presided at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a frock of magnolia satin made with a panelled skirt, the back panel falling from a stitched belt across the back forming a train. The long sleeved bodice was made with a cowl neck, the back being finished with satin buttons and loops from the neck to the waist. The sleeves were finished with loops from the shoulder to the wrist. The veil which had kindly been lent by Mrs A. L. Barker was of hand embroidered tulle and was held in place by a wreath of tiny flowers and orange blossom. She carried a sheaf of arum lilies, freesias and maidenhair fern. Miss Helen Cribb, attended as bridesmaid. Her frock was of coral pink taffeta cut on slimming lines the bodice being ruched in front as were her short puff sleeves. The belt was finished with a diamente buckle in front. She wore a silver bandeau in her hair with a flower to tone with her dress caught at either side. Her bouquet was of pink tulips and maidenhair fern. Mr Herbert Scott attended his brother as best man. The reception was held in Geraldine where the guests were received by Mrs Cone assisted by Mrs Scott. The bride’s mother wore a navy costume, biscuit crepe de chene blouse and navy blue straw hat. She carried a bouquet of scarlet tulips. The bridegroom’s mother wore a brown costume and maize crepe de chene blouse with brown hat. She carried a bouquet of flame abutilons. When Mr and Mrs T. P. Scott left for the north the bride travelled in a fawn worsted tailored costume, a fawn and orange figured blouse, and a brown breton hat. BELL —CAMPBELL The marriage was solemnised at StMary’s Church, Timaru, by the Rev. Norris, of Gladys Muriel, second daughter of Mr and Mrs H. Campbell, Timaru, and Percy Howe, third son of Mr and Mrs W. H. Bell, Timaru. The church was decorated, by friends of the bride, with pink blossoms, cream arum lilies and sprays of lilac. Mr A. W. V. Vine presided at the organ. The bride who was escorted by her father, wore a gown of deep cream satin riche. The bodice featured a heart-shaped neckline, finished with tiny loops and a spray of orange blossom. The pleated-in sleeves, were long and tight fitting, tapering to a point over the hands. Tiny satin buttons and hoops were at the back of the bodice and on the sleeves. The long train was finished with a row of pleating. Her deep cream veil was embroidered tulle and was held in place by a spray of orange blossom and arum lilies, mounted on plaited tulle. Her shower bouquet was composed of freesias, arum lilies and maiden hair fern. The bride was attended by two maids, Miss Phyllis Campbell, sister of the bride and Miss Phyllis McMillan. Their frocks of green-rose, velvet embossed cloque, were made alike and were cut on classical lines. They wore matching coats with wide revers and finished with a row of tiny velvet buttons, their toques featuring a halo effect, being covered with lilac velvet flowers. They carried bouquets of mauve and pink anemones. Attending the groom were Messrs William Verdon (best man) and Mr Hector Bell (brother, groomsman). During the signing of the register Mr Alan Johnson sang “Ave Maria.” / The bride’s mother received the guests at the Bay tea-rooms, wearing a smart navy tailored costume and lilac blouse. Her smart navy hat was trimmed with flowers to tone and she wore a shoulder spray of mauve and pink anemones. The bridegroom’s mother also wore a navy costume and white blouse, her navy hat being trimmed with white flowers. She wore a spray of red. On leaving the church the bride was presented with a silver horse shoe by little Shirley Hutchins. When Mr and Mrs Bell left for the north, the bride was wearing a pale blue tailored costume, white georgette blouse, pale blue Princess Marina hat, trimmed with white flowers and accessories to tone. She carried a fur stole, the gift of the bridegroom.
