Major lan Hay Beith, has been promoted to the rank of Major-General and appointed to succeed the late Major-General G. P. Dawnay as Public Relations Officer at the War Office. t Major-General Beith is well-known as a novelist and playwright under the pen-name of “lan Hay.” His books include “The Safety Match,” “A Knight on Wheels,” ‘“The Lighter Side of School Life,” and "The First Hundred Thousand.” His greatest success in the theatre was "Tilly of Bloomsbury.” Major-General Dawnay, whom “lan Hay” succeed! at the War Office, committed suicide on September 29. It was stated at the Inquest that he suffered from strain and overwork during the recent international crisis.
