Imperial Airways has taken over the Champion, the first of eight twenty-four-ton flying boats. The builders aredoing their utmost to place as many machines in commission as pebble before the Christmas mail rush. The last three are being named Ao-tea-roa, Awarua and Australia. These are seventeen-seaters, which will inaugurate the trans-Tasman service.

The flying boat Champion is intended for the run between New York and Bermuda, after it lias taken a share in carrying the Empire Christmas mails. The Champion will carry a useful load, about 35,0001 b greater than that of the Empire flying boats. It is to be followed shortly by the Cabot, equipped to take the advantage of refuelling in the air, and two other boats of this class the Connemara and the Clyde, which may also be engaged in Christmas mail work on the Empire routes.
