Mr W. H. Hall was welcomed as the Timaru Borough Council representative on the Timaru Harbour Board at the monthly meeting yesterday. Mr A. F. Campbell was yesterday appointed by the Timaru Harbour Board as its representative on the South Canterbury Centenary Exhibition Subcommittee.

Mr J. L. Greer, a member of the engineering staff of the Auckland Harbour Board, has resigned to take up- an appointment- at Singapore. Mr Greer will leave Auckland about the middle of next month. Father T. Dwyer, of the Far East Mission, has left Wellington for St. Columban's College, Essendon, Melbourne, to take up an appointment there. Father Dwyer is an old boy of St. Bede’s, Christchurch, and a son of the late Mr R. Dwyer. Canon E. H. Strong, warden of St. John’s College. Auckland, who will relinquish that position at the end of this year, will take charge of St. Paul’s Cathedral, Dunedin, during the whble of next year. He will relieve the present vicar, Dean G. C. Cruickshank, who will leave for England early in the New Year. Regret at the death of Mr A. G. Foster was expressed by Mr F. R. Flatman, acting-chairman, at the monthly meeting of the Timaru Harbour Board yesterday. Mr Foster was a mhst useful member of the board, especially In regard to his knowledge of labour laws, said Mr Flatman. A motion of sympathy with the relatives was passed. A pleasing function took place in the Shaw, Savill and Albion Co.’s store yesterday afternoon, when Mr G. L. Almond, manager of the Timaru branch, who is leaving shortly to take up a position in New Plymouth, was presented by the staff with a travelling rug and a cigarette case. Mr J. Keay, in making the presentation, referred to the cordial relations which had always existed between Mr Almond and the staff, and wished him every success and prosperity in the future, these remarks being endorsed by Mr F. Clark and Mr J. Duncan. Mr Almond, in acknowledging the gifts, thanked the members of the staff for the loyal support which had always been extended to him.
