WELLINGTON TRAMS
AWARD CAUSES DISSATISFACTION By JeJpmann Ptpss Assnrlßflnr WELLINGTON, October 28. A mass meeting of Wellington tramwaymen is to be held in the Trades Hall on Sunday, when the latest developments in connection with the new award will be discussed. Considerable dissatisfaction existed among the men when the award, granting an increase of lid an hour to hourly workers and 5/- a week to weekly workers was issued on October 18. It was claimed that the men were the lowest paid of any tramwaymen in Hew Zealand and : epresentations were made to the City Council for retrospective pay and an increase on the minimum rates fixed by the Second Court of Arbitration. The Council granted retrospective pay as from April 27, but declined to interfere with the rates of pay. The decision of the Council was Iscussed at a meeting of the executive oi the Tramways’ Union to-day, the secretary (Mr W. N. Broadley) subsequently stating that the position would be reviewed at the mass meeting of tramwaymen on Sunday. Among the men to-day there was evidence that dissatisfaction still prevailed.
