When going round the courts at Wimbledon one cannot help noticing that, whether the women players are wearing the scantiest shorts or a full pleated dress of the same material, sharkskin is often used this season, states a London writer. It washes well and has the great advantage of being opaque. The necessity of wearing a petticoat under a muslin dresslike Miss Eileen Bennett used to have—would not be tolerated by the girl of to-day. She wants greater freedom for her volleying. Although at first sight, Mrs Helen Wills Moody’s rather long pleated dress with its low waisted effect looks exactly like the one she wore when she first came to London some 11 years ago, there are really several alterations. It has no jumper top or little sleeve, but a waistcoat with buttons, and is completely sleeveless.
