Cricket Club Opening of Season The Cave Cricket Club held its opening day for the season last Saturday in ideal weather. Apologies were received from the patron, Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P., and Mr G. G. Rich, and Mr G. Mathias (vicepresidents), who were unable to attend. An enjoyable afternoon was spent playing a friendly match among club members and visitors. On Labour Day a match was played against a team from Woodbury, at Cave, the home team being defeated by 16 runs, Woodbury making 54 and Cave 38. The Woodbury team had first innings, the chief scorers being R. Rice 11. D. Chlsnll 14. and L. Neutze 10. For Cave, L. Campbell made 21 and M. Cameron 7. Campbell and Carnegie bowled best for Cave and Neutze for Woodbury. TENNIS TE NGAWAI SUB-ASSOCIATION The annual meeting of tlie Te Ngawai Lawn Tennis Sub-association was held at Albury on October 20. Representatives were present from Pleasant Point, Albury and Cave. The balance sheet showed a credit balance of £3/0/6 which was considered very satisfactory. The report stated that last season the inter-club competition was won by the Albury Club. Thanks were due to all who had assisted at a very successful handicap tournament held at Fairlie at the close of the season, also to the Fairlie Club, for the use of their courts. The winners of the tournament were: Women’s doubles, Miss Cadenhead and Miss Seay (scr). Men’s doubles, Messrs R. Roberts and Horne (plus 15 2-6). Combined doubles, Miss Rutherford and Mr J. Gillingham (-15). The annual match with a Tlmaru team was played at Pleasant Point and was won by the Sub-association. Mr Hart expressed regret at losing the services of Mr E. W. Kerr as secretary and treasurer, and extended thanks to him for his valued assistance during the past two years. Mr Hart was elected president and secretary. It was decided to purchase a challenge cur for competition in the inter-club matches; the cup to be presented to the winning team at the annual tournament. Inter-club matches were arranged to commence on November 19. Draw for Season The draw is as follows: November 19—Fairlie v. Pleasant Point, at Pleasant Point; Albury v. Cave, at Cave; Opawa, a bye. December 3—Fairlie, a bye; Albury v. Opawa, at Albury; Pleasant Point v. Cave, at Cave. December 17—Fairlie v. Cave, at Fairlie; Albury, a bye; Pleasant Point v. Opawa, at Pleasant Point. January 7—Fairlie v. Albury, at Albuiy; Pleasant Point, a bye; Cave v. Opawa, at Opawa. January 21—Fairlie v. Opawa, at Fairlie; Albury v. Pleasant Point, at Albury; Cave, a bye. Rules of Play Rules for 1938-39 season are:—(l) That men’s singles, men’s doubles and combined doubles be played up to nine games (straight sets). (2) That women’s singles and Women’s doubles be played up to seven games (straight sets). (3) Order of games, singles, doubles, combined doubles. (4) The secretary of the home team must supply the secretary of the Sub-association with complete results of each match immediately. (5) AU matches to commence at 1.30 p.m. sharp.
