A completely white hare, the first pure albino hare to be add' d to the collection in the Canterbury Museum, has been presented by Mr H. E. Garth. The curator, Mr R. A. Falla, explained yesterday that albinism, or pure white colouring, did not occur very frequently among hares, though its occurrence was natural to these and other mammals. It was caused by lack of pigment, and was rather less frequent than melanism, or completely black colouring. Other specimens at the museum display varying degrees of albinism.
