RECORD BROKEN

Craighead Sports Championships Decided One record, the senior long jump, was broken at the annual sports of the Craighead Diocesan School, which were held at the School and on the Highfield Golf Links yesterday. Competition was keen and the championships provided good contests, although both were won by a fair margin of points. There was a large attendance of parents. At the conclusion of the sports the trophies were presented by Mrs H. W. Monaghan in the gymnasium. The championships resulted as follows: Senior—D. Taylor (24points) 1, B. Shirtcliff (17 points) 2, P. Knights (7 points) 3. Junior—M. Sams (23 points! 1, J. Howell (14 points) 2, B. Tweedy (7 points) 3. The inter-house competition was won by Te Raki with 92 points, Tonga being second with 84 points. Tire record broken was in the senior long jump, in which B. Shirtcliff jumped 14ft llSin, compared with the previous record of 14ft 9in established by M. Orbell in 1933. B. Shirtcliff also holds the junior long jump record of 14ft 4in.
