LUXURY HOTEL
CONSTRUCTION AT DARWIN SYDNEY, September 12. Plans for a large hotel having all the devices for comfort on European standards were taken to Darwin by fly-ing-boat at the week-end by the man-aging-director of the Lapstone Hotel, Mr H, G, Kirkpatrick. They will be placed before the Darwin licensing Committee, and, if a licence is granted, building will begin almost immediately. “We propose to have' the steel framework riveted in Sydney,” Mr Kirkpatrick said in an interview before he left Sydney, “and then taken to Darwin by ship. The total cost will be about £50,000. As a beginning there will be two storeys with a roof garden. On the roof also will be erected a dancing floor. Our plans provide that every room shall have its bathroom and every room will extend right across the building. “There will be an Ice plant, and air conditioning in every room. We have gone into the question of food very thoroughly, and we have planned that every type of food and fruit will be available. Our site is about half a mile from the Jetty, where passengers from seaplanes are landed, and it is also close to the aerodrome.
