NURSES’ HOLIDAYS
NEW SCHEME ADOPTED AUCKLAND, September 27. ; A new system of granting holidays for nurses was adopted by the Auckland Hospital Board last night on the recommendation of the lady superintendent, Miss E. M. Nutsey. Three 1 weeks’ annual leave is to be granted *, at the end of six months’ service and ■ then annually so that the subsequent holidays occur at the end of U, 24 and i 34 years of service. It was stated that : at the end of four years a nurse would « have had the full 12 weeks’ leave to - which she was entitled. Miss Nutsey said the new system would prevent leave becoming overdue as happened at present, when a student joining the staff in August or September might have to wait until November or December of the following year before she could take her leave, on account of attending lectures and sitting for examinations. It had been felt that when nurses were sent away in the middle of their lecture counse. they did not derive the benefit of a holiday on account of their being ; worried about examinations. The board also decided that nurses resident in the home should receive 17/6 a week as allowance for board lost when on holiday or on sick leave away from the institution. Nurses who live out receive the usual allowance of 35/- a week when on holiday or sick leave and 17/6 when on sick leave and ’ admitted to hospital. A recommendation by Miss Nutsey „• that five extra sisters should be appointed, on account of an increase of ~ * work in various wards and depart-.'4 ments, was adopted by the board. - 4
