Weather—Mainly fair but with morning fog or drizzle in places; temperatures cool with some frosts. DOMINION FORECAST General Situation A depression moved eastward last night off the South Island.. An extensive anti-cyclone now covers the Dominion with centres in the far north and off the East Coast of the South Island. Pressure is rather low over eastern Australia. Forecast Winds—Light to moderate and variable southerlies predominating at first from Nelson and Marlborough northwards and northerlies in the far south, northerlies gradually extending northwards to beyond Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters)—Slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea—Light to moderate northerly to north-westerly winds and slight to moderate seas. Weather —Cloudy to overcast on the East Coast from Kaikoura to East Cape and in the central and southern portion of the North Island with scattered light rain, but improving; elsewhere fair to fine; temperatures cool to moderate with some ground frosts and morning fogs in the South Island. IN OTHER CENTRES Christchurch: Yesterday was overcast and warm with a light south-west wind. The maximum temperature was 56.2 degrees. The barometer at 5 p.m. recorded 30.255 and was almost steady. /Ishburton: The weather yesterday was threatening with a light but chilly wind from the south. The sky was almost completely overcast and little was seen of the sun. Geraldine: Dull and overcast throughout the day. Temuka: Yesterday was dull and overcast. The maximum temperature was 56 degrees and the minimum 43. The glass was high and steady last evening. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday): Thermometer, max. 57.2; min. 45.0; rain, 6 points; bright sunshine, 1 hour 12 minutes; wind gauge, miles run in last 24 hours, 59. Yesterday was overcast and cool. Dunedin: Yesterday was dull and cold in the morning but the sun shone brightly in the afternoon. The temperature reached a maximum of 56 degrees in spite of a cold north-east breeze. The barometer fell to 30.30 inches in the afternoon.
